Dear FynArts Supporter

The Long and the Short: dinners and demonstrations.

NEWS FLASH! Early Bird bookings extended to Thursday 7 May for you to take advantage of the special rate to book tickets for a wide range of demonstrations which is now finalised and loaded onto the website. Tickets at the full price will continue to be on sale at Webtickets.

Demonstrations: the Italian Connection

Top local chefs and celebrity chefs will inspire and entertain at the Pop-Up Kitchen at the Windsor Hotel. Davide Ostun from Puglio Cheese has the opening slot and in keeping with the Italian Connection will demonstrate how he makes the Staple of the Italian Kitchen: fresh mozzarella moist, firm, creamy, while Fabio Valsasina and Giovanna Sartor will entertain with another Italian staple: the Aperitivo. Executive Chefs Peter Tempelhoff (Cellars-Hohenort) and Chad Blows (The Marine) will demonstrate Italian cuisine while Woolworths Innovation Chef, Dave Caras will show you how to be creative with Flavours of Italy.

And more ...

Also on the demo programme are Garth Stroebel, Hospitality Consultant and chef demonstrating contemporary cuisine; Warrick Taylor, well-known food and wine flavour profiler at Creation; and David Grier, chef, author and extreme adventurer with the banting way.

Shane Sauvage from La Pentola shares his passion for fusion, while Mariana from Marianas shares hers for pulses and Sue Preece hers for handmade sausages – first a hobby, now a business.

And fresh from the coast and dunes, Anton Veryhoogt from Fisherman’s Cottage will create an unusual kelp terrine while Werner Piek food technologist at Abagold will prepare perlemoen delights.

Executive Chef at Benguela Brasserie and Restaurant, Kelly Pietersen will demonstrate the versatility of pastry and Veronica Back will demonstrate how to make allergen-free treats. The Tikka Boys, Yusuf Sujee and Stephen Mandes, Ultimate Braai Master Chefs new to La Vierge Restaurant will demonstrate how to marinade, brine and cure.

Dinners and dining

Enjoy a rare local delicacy - abalone - prepared by Chef Rudolf and paired with wine from the Hemel en Aarde Valley: Two Jewels of Hermanus. Wener Piek, Food Technologist from Abagold, Rudolf and the winemaker will be on hand throughout the evening.

The traditional Shabat Dinner held at the hall at the new Synagogue was a sellout last year and tickets are again selling fast. You may also attend the shabat service before the meal.

Another sellout last year was the Food and Wine Pairing dinner at Harbour House Hotel. This year the dinner will again take place. The wine maker and Chef Louwrens will also be on hand during the evening.

Tickets are sold out for A Feast of the Senses, a gourmet dinner with an Italian flavour, presented by seven celebrity chefs and hosted at Benguela Cove Manor House.

Tickets sale update

Eight vintage films have sold out but the good news is that there will be a repeat screening of Roman Holiday. Both It started in Naples and Rebecca will be screened on Wednesday 17 June at 10:00 and 15:00 respectively.

What the EFF with Nik Rabinowitz is also sold out. No other performance is scheduled, so don’t miss In the Nik of Time when John Scott will interview Nik.

The FynArts Fund

Hermanus FynArts has reached a new milestone with the establishment of the Hermanus FynArts Fund. The long-term aim is to establish a School of the Arts for the Overstrand in Hermanus. In the shorter term the aim is to widen audiences at concerts and at workshops to include people who for socio-economic reasons, or because of disablity, are not able to take part in the festival. This fund will be used to heavily subsidise tickets for concerts, workshops and demonstrations, as well as to offer special arts educational events. For more information click here.
